Amazingly not too many goals were scored this gameweek, with a total of 6 matches finishing in 1-0 scorelines, including the top 3 teams Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton. Man Utd continued their comeback winning Spurs by a single goal from Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Dutchman's 1st goal of the season. Well the surprise package so far has to be Everton, nobody expected them to be 3rd in the league, so we shall look at how they have succeeded.
There's an old saying "if u dun concede, u dun lose the game". Everton certainly embodied that, displaying a sturdy defence in front of keeper Nigel Martyn. U certainly do not want to mess around with hard-tackling captain Alan Stubbs, whilst the pacy full-backs keep opposing wingers at bay. Hard-man Lee Carsley sits in front of the back 4 as anchor to thwart their opponents' attacks. Play-maker Gravesen supplies the key passes to lone striker Marcus Bent.
The thing i noted about Everton is that most of their goals are scored from set-pieces. And unlike conventional tactics, it isn't the centre-halves that move into the penalty area to win the headers, its all the midfielders! The defenders hardly have a chance to attack at all! Perhaps this is why they concede so few goals, bcos they never get caught by counter attacks. To beat Everton, one has to be patient and wait for the perfect chance, bearing in mind not to give away free-kicks easily. Its possible, Arsenal did it on opening day!

Kimi Raikkonen

9:52 PM
It's almost over, i am 1 day, 1 paper and 1 hour away from the end of prelims, time to celebrate and enjoy! After the paper i've got a 2-hr Amazing Race finale to watch, followed by a special episode of Singapore Idol. They are inviting Mr Careless Whisper back, can u believe it?!(I would prefer the lemon tree guy... lol) Anyway the real icing on the cake is definitely the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix this weekend at Shanghai. It's the first ever race in China, i hope to have a really fantastic race, not Ferrari domination again.
Well i read a really inspiring biography today, tat of the ice-cool Finn Kimi Raikkonen, destined to be a future F1 World Champion. I shall leave you with tat. Remember anything is possible if you try!
Kimi's Biography:
Kimi made his controversial Formula One debut at the start of the 2001 season. The young Finn had competed in just twenty-three car races before catching Peter Sauber's eye, and despite concerns from fellow drivers and FIA president Max Mosley he was eventually awarded a provisional super-license.
An impressive Australian GP debut saw Kimi finish seventh, (later promoted to sixth), and he scored a further three points finishes during his debut season, helping Sauber to achieve its most successful season to date.
A number of strong performances saw Kimi catch the eye of McLaren boss Ron Dennis, and after much speculation it was announced late in the 2001 season that he would leave Sauber to replace the departing - and fellow Finn - Mika Hakkinen at McLaren (much to team mate Nick Heidfeld's frustration).
Described by his former boss as 'arrogant and egotistical', Kimi has outlined his ambition to become formula One's youngest champion, surely two of the characteristics that make World Champions.
Unfortunately the MP4-17 was not one of McLaren's finest, though its tendency to oversteer certainly suited Kimi's style, whereas team-mate Coulthard hated it.
The Finnish youngster got his season off to a great start thanks to a superb third at Melbourne, spoiled only by the fact that he was narrowly out-qualified by his Scots team-mate. When you think that this was the youngster's second season, you realise that Ron Dennis must have been feeling pretty chuffed with himself at having signed what must surely be a future World Champion.
Despite not having the best package, Kimi demonstrated that he has the raw speed and courage of which champions are made. His battles with Montoya in Germany and Hungary were short but oh so sweet, the Finn refusing to be intimidated by the hard-charging Colombian.
At Magny Cours it so nearly came together, with the Finn just a few short laps away from a historic victory, however bad luck and inexperience meant that Kimi and his fans would have to wait just that little bit longer for that all-important first win.
In Belgium, Kimi's qualifying performance was awesome the youngster coming close to achieving his first pole, while in the latter stages he regularly out-qualified his illustrious team-mate.
At Malaysia, the second race of the 2003 season, Kimi took a sensational win, the first of his F1 career, and following on from his third place at Melbourne this meant he now led the World Championship.
A string of second places meant that the Finn went to Canada with a four-point lead over Michael Schumacher, even though the German had won three consecutive races. A victory for the reigning champion in Canada meant that Kimi lost his World Championship lead and sadly was unable to regain it.
As the season wore on it was clear that the McLaren was no match for the WilliamsF1 or the Ferrari, despite the best efforts of the Finn. Furthermore mistakes on his 'hot lap' in qualifying meant that Raikkonen started from the back of the grid on two occasions.
Nonetheless he took the championship down to the wire in Japan and gave Schumacher a real run for his money.
Having celebrated his twenty-fourth birthday a week after the end of the 2003 season there is still time to beat Emerson Fittipaldi's long-standing record and become the youngest ever F1 World Champion, though Fernando Alonso may well have other ideas.
If McLaren's previous 'flying Finn' was a man of few words, Kimi is a man of even fewer, preferring to do his 'talking' on track. That said, his rivals have been forced to listen.

The last 100% record in the league is finally broken by the Trotters. Bolton came away from Highbury with a point and their heads held high. They have now beaten Liverpool and drawn with Man Utd and Arsenal in thier few 6 games of the campaign. Credit to them, they played really strongly and deserved the draw. Chelsea also slipped up, scoring yet another 0-0 draw.
Man Utd are back! They beaten Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield with 2 goals from Mikael Silvestre. With Rio Ferdinand back from suspension and van Nistelrooy back from injury, they can only get better. Watch out for Everton too, they are unbeaten since opening day where Arsenal won the Toffees 4-1. The Premiership race is hotting up, its getting exciting!

Finally i got a 3-day break from exams after a week of struggling, actually wasn't working too hard, dunno why i felt so tired. Maybe bcos too stressed and didn't slp well. I am really pushing for a good result this time round, its now or never. After going thru' all the papers, i felt i did ok, perhaps could have pushed a little bit harder, but there's juz too many nice programmes on TV this week. There was the Amazing Race, Singapore Idol and the usual Taiwanese variety programmes by Jacky Wu, they are all too good to miss.
Wad a race it was on Wed, Colin & Christie nearly got knocked out, they got yielded by Chip & Kim, but luckily it was a non-elimination leg for the race around the Phillipines. They must be fuming that Chip & Kim actually betrayed them. Lets hope my favourite team Brandon and Nicole can win the million dollars. And my predictions were spot-on for the Singapore Idol. I backed Sylvester and Maia to go through, and they did! But the judges somehow decided to add one more name to the final stages of the competition. Beverly somehow made it through but nevertheless i thought she deserved another shot at stardom.
Lets hope that i can do well for the rest of the papers, i'll leave u with the predictions for Gameweek 6.

Well i didn't get to watch most of the games due to my prelims, but i did see all the goals eventually, which wasn't a lot. Quite a few games ended in a stalemate, including Chelsea who dropped 2 pts at Villa Park, losing their 100% record this season. No such troubles for the Gunners, who added 3 more goals to thier tally against Fulham. They were rather shaky in the first half and were lucky to escape from conceding a penalty and Fulham having a goal ruled out.
United continued their slump, dropping points again at the Reebok Stadium against the Trotters. Big Sam's men did well to win the game but yet another last minute goal saved the Red Devils. The match somehow ended 2-2, honours shared. Liverpool did extremely well against West Brom. Under Rafael Benitez, Liverpool are starting to look like championship material.

Alrite, back to the impt things. Next gameweek starts tmrl, on Sept 11. 3 years ago on this day terrorists knocked down the World Trade Center Towers. Let us observe a minute's silence for those who lost thier lives tat day, and the valiant firefighters who risked their lives to save the people. Also not forgetting those killed in the Jakarta bombings of the Australian Embassy yesterday. It served as a timely reminder tat terrorism is not far away, we have to be vigilant. Lets hope we have a peaceful Sept 11 2004.

Goals galore in this gameweek, completed by the 7-goal thriller at Fratton Park, with Portsmouth winning 4-3 against Fulham. The match at Villa Park also saw 6 goals, with the home team winning 4-2 against the Magpies. Sadly, this resulted in the 2nd managerial victim in juz 4 weeks, Bobby Robson was relieved of his post at Newcastle, following the sacking of Southampton's Gordon Strachan.
Arsenal and Chelsea continued their winning ways as they steered clear of the chasing pack, both teams still possessing 100% records this season. Manchester United struggled to score in both their games, needing a controversial last-minute goal by Alan Smith to salvage a single point against Blackburn, whilst their second game ended in a stalemate against Everton. Not to worry though, the signing of Wayne Rooney would definitely boost the Red Devils' firepower.
Well, no EPL for the next 10 days due to World Cup qualifiers, so the EPL expert takes a break and concentrate on his prelims. Next gameweek starts on Sept 11(wad a day), until then, its goodbye!
